Bilbo's friends now need your help!! This is YOUR DOG!!
Have you ever gone for a day out to the beach and found your dog is not as welcome as you? If you live near or ever enjoy a visit to the English coast you may have found that dog-friendly beaches are few and far between. This is because increasing numbers of local authorities are banning dogs from their beaches using dog control orders. The Kennel Club is campaigning to keep beaches open to dogs. To have any chance of success we need you to ask your MP to support our amendments to the Marine & Coastal Access Bill. If successful these amendments will prevent local authorities banning dogs from their beaches. To find out how you can help or for more information about the campaign and contacting your MP please visit our website: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2179

All the support behind Bilbo has resulted in talks this week which hopefully will see Bilbo being granted a dispensation allowing him unlimited access to Sennen beach as long as he is accompanied by his owner, Jmo.

Because Bilbo has had no formal Lifeguard training he cannot be classed as a working dog and therefore cannot go on the beach due to the wording of the dog beach ban. There is no formal Lifeguard training for dogs, although Bilbo has had training from his owner who is a trained Lifeguard, and Bilbo has shown his natural ability as a rescue dog.
We are petitioning for Bilbo to be given official working dog status so he can to continue working on the beach or legislation, if none already exists, to allow him to do so.
The deadline for the petition is 8th March and you can sign the online petition. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/BilboOnTheBeach/
Bilbo can also be found on Facebook group: “Keep Bilbo on the beach”
